The Durham Pecan legacy, rooted in W.M. Durham, Sr.'s vision, was established in 1928. His aim was to provide people with the freshest and highest quality pecans. In the face of challenges, he created opportunities for others by setting up long tables for workers to shell pecans by hand, earning money based on the weight of the pecan meat. This unwavering commitment to quality and community has been the bedrock of our business for over 90 years, a testament to our dedication and values.

In 1998, H.L. “Odie” Dollins combined Durham Pecan with Ellis Pecan to form Durham-Ellis Pecan Company. After 95 years of business, our mission remains to establish customer satisfaction and loyalty by providing top-quality products and services.

Durham-Ellis Pecan Company makes its home in Comanche, Texas, snugly tucked among the hills of Central Texas. Our facilities cover over 165,000 square feet. Durham-Ellis Pecan Company is a well-known pecan nut processor and distributor that handles millions of pounds of pecans, dried fruits, candies, and mixes and roasts millions of pounds of peanuts and other nuts. We pride ourselves on being able to roast and package all our products with state-of-the-art processing and packaging equipment. We have ample cold storage buildings to ensure freshness year-round.  Our customer list comprises grocery stores, ingredient users, bakeries, food service suppliers, and restaurants.

A Little History

December 17, 1965, the Comanche Chief Paper front page headline read: “Comanche Gains New Industry As Durham Pecan Company Opens.” It began operations December 1 in full swing, shelling and packaging pecans, as well as storing thousands of pounds in cold storage. They shipped pecans to almost every state, Canada, and Hawaii. At the end of the 1965 article read: “Comanche is fortunate to have another home-owned industry in town.” The business was first located in the old turkey plant and ice house on South Houston Street in Comanche. In addition to the pecan business, early on company president, the late Walter “Red” Durham and the company’s secretary and treasurer, the late Russell Anderson, established a peanut shelling plant that grew to be one of the largest in the country. In 1964, they sold the peanut part of the business to Gold Kist.
